P20 Pro and Mate 20 Pro update brings great new features to these Huawei phones

P20 PRO and Mate 20 Pro are receiving an update that brings some great features to these Huawei devices and here is everything new.

P20 Pro and the Mate 20 Pro were Huawei's two flagship devices for 2018 and remain incredibly appealing Android devices for their wealth of functionality.

As is the case with many recent premium devices from the Chinese tech giant, the P20 Pro and Mate 20 Pro place their camera systems on a pedestal.

Both products come with three cameras on their rear but the Mate 20 Pro is certainly more diverse thanks to its implementation of an ultra wide-angle system that allows for extremely unique shots to be taken.

With that said, both Huawei products are capable of taking gorgeous snaps in a range of conditions, as Express.co.uk noted in our reviews for both devices.

Cameras aside, the P20 Pro and Mate 20 Pro share much in common; both have a display over 6-inches, have huge batteries and offer incredibly fast performance.

Here is how the two Android flagships compare on paper:

Huawei P20 Pro

• Display - 6.1-inch OLED display with the resolution of 1080x2240 and the density of 408-pixels-per-inch

• Rear camera system - 40-megapixel main camera, 20-megapixel monochrome sensor and an 8-megapixel telephoto module

• Processor - Huawei's own Kirin 970

• Battery capacity - 4,000mAh

Huawei Mate 20 Pro

• Display - 6.39-inch OLED display with the resolution of 1440x3120 and the density of 538-pixels-per-inch

• Rear camera system - 40-megapixel main camera, 20-megapixel ultra wide-angle sensor and an 8-megapixel telephoto module

• Processor - Huawei's own Kirin 980

• Battery capacity - 4,200mAh

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro runs Android 9 Pie out the box with the firm's own EMUI 9.0 skin running on top of it.

Meanwhile, the P20 Pro launched running Android 8.1 Oreo but has since been upgraded to the newer software version.

EMUI 9.0 is a version behind the EMUI 9.1 software that debuted on Huawei's newest flagship smartphone, the P30 Pro.

While the differences between the two skin versions are not gargantuan, the latter does include some nifty new features such as the ability to view third-party notification icons on the phone's always-on display.

Moreover, EMUI 9.1 also brings a gaming feature dubbed GPU Turbo 3.0 that seeks to improve frame rates for different programmes while also ensuring a device is kept at a reasonable temperature.

Other notable improvements include a refined settings menu and the ability to customise incoming call videos for contacts.

Last week XDA Developers reported the new software was arriving for some Mate 20 Pro owners but now Huawei has announced a deluge of its other handsets, including the P20 Pro, are also set to receive it in the future.
